February 27, 2018

Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Shyqiri Bytyqi hosted in the meeting Mrs. Darllen Grent, leader of the Peace Corps in Kosova, with whom he talked about the work and commitments that the Peace Corps Volunteers are doing in Kosova schools, mainly in the cities and the possibilities of deepening further co-operation.

Peace Corps volunteers are engaged in teaching English by American methods, in a considerable number of schools, some of which are taught in both Serbian and Bosnian.

Minister Bytyqi on this occasion thanked Mrs. Grent for the commitment of the Peace Corps volunteers and highly appreciated their contribution to the preparation of our teachers, to apply modern methods of teaching English, and in addition to this to understand American culture.

Minister Bytyqi also said that we are committed and interested to have as many collaborators in order to raise the education system to a better level. “I appreciate the volunteering commitment of your teachers who are doing their best to support our teachers with different methods and different professional forms of teaching”, said Minister Bytyqi.

Further, the Minister underlined that during the visit that he recently had in Iowa, had encountered their readiness and willingness to support different forms of development of education in Kosova, and this for us is a very precious thing.

On the other hand, Mrs. Grent said that this cooperation will continue, but always being based and supporting the agenda of the Ministry of Education in implementing education reforms.

Mrs. Grent expressed regret that their activity could not be sufficiently developed in rural areas due to the conditions.

Minister Bytyqi and Mrs. Grent agreed that a Memorandum of Understanding would be drafted soon to further detail other issues related to the further engagement of the Peace Corps in Kosova.

Otherwise, the Peace Corps is a volunteer program run by the United States government, whose mission involves providing technical assistance, helping people outside of the US to understand American culture and helping US citizens understand cultures of other countries.
