In the framework of marking the International Day of the Girl, the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Taulant Kelmendi participated in the discussion table with the students of the “Faik Konica” and “Xhemail Mustafa” elementary schools in Prishtina.
At this discussion table, the Ministry’s policies for the support and empowerment of girls in society were presented.
Deputy Minister Kelmendi expressed his readiness that the institutions of the Republic of Kosova are ready and have expressed the will to jointly discuss the rights of girls, the integration of girls in educational institutions, the integration of girls in every field of life and pushing the limits that our society has.
Deputy Minister Kelmendi also said that the Ministry of Education has worked to stop gender discrimination, concrete steps have also been taken in the Education Curriculum, in the Education Strategy, laws and manuals, where it is clearly specified how girls and women in the whole society to have equal access and opportunities to express their talent and work and to be integrated in decision-making.
Kelmendi further said that the Ministry of Education has offered support to girls in technical fields through direct subsidies and support with scholarships, as well as in institutions of higher education for students it has offered support in scholarships, where a total of 4,630 scholarships were awarded to girls studying in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
While, in her speech, the deputy principal of “Faik Konica” elementary school, Kosovare Leci said that, as a school, they have tried to implement the educational policies presented by the Ministry for gender equality, and that there should be no differences in any student. He also said that they are committed to creating a safe environment and providing the best possible conditions for everyone to be equal.
Marking the International Girls’ Day aims to promote gender equality and raise awareness of the unique challenges girls face around the world.
