The Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Arbërie Nagavci, participated in the event marking World Children’s Day, organized by UNICEF in Kosova, in partnership with the European Union. This event will highlight the achievements of the partnership between UNICEF and the EU in the project “Protecting Vulnerable Children in Kosova”.
Minister Nagavci said on this occasion that, on World Children’s Day, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting the rights and well-being of all children in Kosova, where at the Inter-Ministerial meeting of the Committee on the Rights of the Child, the chosen theme of the year for Children’s Day was discussed, which highlights the very important fact that your voice must be heard.
She emphasized that, on this same day, MASTI officially opens the “Week against School Dropout” – an annual program with numerous awareness-raising activities, with videos and discussions, and with the distribution of information brochures in all schools in the country.
Minister Nagavci also announced that, with our actions as the Government and as the Ministry of Education, we aim to create the right conditions for children in schools to have quality infrastructure, to be equipped with accurate textbooks, to know how to protect themselves from dangerous phenomena and habits, to understand the importance of education in the conditions of the 21st century, etc.
Among other things, Minister Nagavci emphasized that we will continue to work to ensure that our schools are physically and digitally accessible to children with disabilities. Furthermore, we have expanded support for children from non-majority communities by promoting their culture and languages within the education system.
Meanwhile, the EU Ambassador to Kosova, Aivo Orav, spoke about several documents on children’s rights that are very important and were adopted many years ago, adding that they will be here and that children are the beginning, middle and end of all stories.
The Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, the Director of the Office for Good Governance, Habit Hajredini, and the Head of UNICEF in Kosova, Veronika Vashchenko, spoke about the importance of marking this day.
