Within marking the World Children’s Rights Day, the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Children’s Rights organized a meeting on the topic “Listen to the Future”, with the motto “All rights, for all children”.
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosova, Albin Kurti, on this occasion said that children are the right path for a sustainable future for Kosova. “We are together today and united every day, because investing in children is the right path for a sustainable future, to raise healthy and educated generations”. “We are increasing social policies so that they live in a safe environment,” said Prime Minister Kurti.
Minister Arbërie Nagavci emphasized that, in general, children are expected to listen to adults, but in fact, we also need to listen to children, paying attention to their honest voice, in order to properly meet their needs.
“Today I tell all of you, dear children, that you have our full attention, and I also guarantee that you also have our will to create the best conditions for life and school for all of you,” said Minister Nagavci.
Minister Nagavci recalled that, last year on the same date, the Ministry of Education published the Child Protection Policy, a document based on the Convention, the Constitution of Kosova, our laws, as well as the best European and international practices and standards for child protection.
Among other things, Minister Nagavci emphasized that the Child Protection Policy Document contains the commitment and dedication of the educational institution to provide a safe environment for children, and to prevent and respond to any concern, danger, or harm to the child.
She further announced that, today, MESTI also marks the launch of the “Week against School Dropout”, where on this occasion, a series of activities dedicated to quality and sustainable education are being held at the central and municipal levels, to develop the full potential of the child towards the overall development of society.
In the presence of representatives of local and international organizations, parents and children, Habit Hajredini, director of the Office for Good Governance at the OPM, the head of the UNICEF Office in Kosova, Veronika Vashchenko, Donjeta Kelmendi, director of KOMF, also spoke about the importance of this day.
Since 1954, the United Nations General Assembly has recommended the institutionalization of World Children’s Rights Day, which derives from the Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted on November 20, 1989.
