The Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, under the care of the Prime Minister’s Office, organized the STEMinists’24 conference, which is being held for the second time this year and aims to network girls and women, to reveal their achievements and contribution in the STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
The purpose of this Conference is to promote the participation of girls and women in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), reducing the gender gap and contributing to the development of society in many ways, as well as helping to shape a more equal and inclusive future for all.
The Prime Minister of Kosova, Albin Kurti, who addressed the participants of the Conference through a video message, said that there are many women and girls who are passionate about science, and there are few who recognize their achievements.
Prime Minister Kurti announced that this year 4,630 scholarships were awarded to female students, adding that the policy for supporting girls and women in STEM is a new policy in education.
The Minister of Education, Arbërie Nagavci, described the Conference as an event of special importance, which aims to be traditional, since girls and women with their unstoppable work have scored successes in complex fields, important for life, society and the country’s economy, successes which are being celebrated today, offering opportunities for discussion about them.
Nagavci said that this is the second year in a row that this conference is being organized, which promotes the professional advancement of women and girls in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in a dignified manner.
Among other things, Minister Nagavci said that the Government of Kosova not only keeps its promises to create opportunities for the inclusion of girls and women in all areas of life, but also has affirmative policies in providing opportunities for women and girls.
The Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli emphasized that the support for girls and women in STEM does not just contain beautiful words, but like the Government, their involvement in these fields is seen as the realization of their rights and a contribution to the overall development of society.
The rector of the University of Prishtina Qerim Qerimi and the coordinator for development at UNDP, Arnhild Spence, also spoke about the importance of the participation of girls and women in STEM, who said that their participation in these spheres of life affects the economic development of the country.
