MINISTER NAGAVCI PARTICIPATED IN THE PUBLIC HEARING OF THE DRAFT LAW ON TEXTBOOKS

The Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Arbërie Nagavci, participated in the meeting of the Commission for Education, Science, Technology, Innovation, Culture, Youth and Sports, where the draft law on textbooks was held.

On this occasion, Minister Nagavci said that, MESTI relying on the program of the Government of the Republic of Kosova and in cooperation with the relevant actors, in 2022 has finalized the Draft Law on school textbooks, which has also been approved by the Government of Kosova and at the same time has also passed the first reading in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosova.

Nagavci further said that the purpose of this Draft Law is to determine the basic norms, standards and procedures for the design, evaluation and publication of textbooks and pedagogical documentation in pre-university education.

Minister Nagavci announced that, in the process of drafting this draft law, officials from MESTI and subordinate institutions of the Ministry, local and international experts, including the European Union Office in Kosova, representatives of the academic community and representatives of civil society were involved.

Some of the innovations included in this Draft Law are:

– Application with manuscripts directly from the authors and ongoing support through capacity building;

– Ensuring competent and accountable reviewers;

– Piloting/testing of textbooks during technical preparation;

– Continuous review of textbooks;

– In line with our strategic goal of digitization in education;

– Opening the way for translation and adaptation opportunity of textbooks in all fields;

– Empowering the State Council for Textbook by reflecting curricular areas, fundamental concepts of the functioning of education such as technology integration, diversity, inclusion, learning science, child development, modern teaching and aspects of gender equality.
