The Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Arbërie Nagavci participated in the International Scientific Conference “Society after the Covid – 19 pandemic – Challenges and solutions”, organized by the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Prishtina.
Minister Nagavci, after welcoming the work of this conference, by congratulating the organizers for all the preparations they have made, stressed that the Covid-19 pandemic hasn’t spared even the Republic of Kosova, where in 2020 Kosovo’s economy has shrunk by 5.3 percent, which has caused long-term consequences, as it has caused business closures and increase of public debt. Speaking about the impact of the pandemic in the field of education, Minister Nagavci said that the reaction of our institutions has been quite fast, offering opportunities to replace physical presence learning with distance learning for all levels.
The Minister also spoke about the continuous efforts of the Ministry of Education, for the normalization of the situation in educational institutions, given that all analyzes show that distance learning is not an adequate replacement for physical education.
Minister Nagavci also stressed the commitment of the Government of the Republic of Kosova to provide vaccines for the citizens of the country, where thanks to this commitment, so far about 48 percent of the population has been vaccinated, which is an enviable rate by the standards of Southeast Europe.
Among other things, the Minister said that other challenges as a result of the pandemic are finding a balance between saving people’s lives and their well-being, supporting businesses and citizens to cope with the consequences of the pandemic, the organization of the process learning in conditions of a new wave of infection and compensation for learning losses that are a consequence of disorders during the pandemic.
Minister Nagavci also stressed that, as the Government of the Republic of Kosova, we welcome the recommendations from professionals and researchers for actions that lead to remediation of the situation.
The Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Dashamir Bërxulli thanked the Minister for the support provided, while pledging that the University of Prishtina with all the expertise it has is available to cooperate with the Government and society in general to provide recommendations which will help find solutions to improve the losses caused by the pandemic.
