The Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Arbërie Nagavci, participated in the Albanian Language Assembly “Challenges of the Albanian Language in the 21st Century”, which was organized by the Ministry of Education and Sports, in Albania. This event is a qualitative impetus, not only for the promotion and development of the language, but also for the cultivation of expressions and idioms for the use of a modern linguistic corpus enriched with new concepts.
Minister Nagavci said on this occasion that, if we want to move forward with the pace of time, one of the most essential steps is to advance our language.
“Language is the core identity of every nation, it is the individual and collective interior, it is the epicenter of the tradition and culture of a society, and ultimately what unites us everywhere and at all times”, said Minister Nagavci, among other things.
Minister Nagavci also emphasized that this Assembly of the Albanian Language comes at the right time and brings together the right people, as it is an excellent platform to discuss this major issue for all Albanians. She added that the Assembly serves as a catalyst for all of us to intensify our work and efforts towards the advancement of our language.
Nagavci announced that the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and the Ministry of Education have offered support like never before in this regard, with the aim of increasing the quality of education as a whole, while announcing that the revision of Albanian Language and Mathematics textbooks for grades 1-9 has begun for the first time, with a special focus on the language used, both in linguistic and conceptual aspects, and beyond.
Nagavci further said that, in higher education, for the first time this academic year, scholarships have been offered for students in the Albanian Language and Albanian Literature study programs at the University of Pristina, with the aim of encouraging youth to study in these fields of state and national interest.
Among other things, Minister Nagavci mentioned the support of the International Seminar for Albanian Language, Literature and Culture, at the University of Pristina, which is now in its fifth decade of life, saying that this Seminar has withstood the test of time, facing extraordinary obstacles during its journey, and continuing its activity even under conditions of brutal occupation.
The Albanian Language Assembly “Challenges of the Albanian Language in the 21st Century” was attended by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania, Edi Rama, the Minister of Education and Sports of the Republic of Albania, Ogerta Manastirliu, the President of the Academy of Sciences, Skënder Gjinushi, the Rector of the University of Tirana, Artan Hoxha, and linguists, albanologists, teachers, writers, translators and researchers of linguistic sciences.
