The Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Arbërie Nagavci, participated in the STEM Innovation Conference, organized by RIT Kosovo, where its aim is to encourage and promote the participation of girls and women in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
Minister Nagavci emphasized that the STEFORA project supported/financed by Erasmus + was successfully implemented within one year, with the support of six European universities, and has managed to develop educational models for digital citizenship, organize trainings and create strategies for social inclusion.
Nagavci said that improving the quality of higher education remains a priority of our government, and for this we have taken concrete steps, including the adoption of the new law on the Kosovo Accreditation Agency, ensuring its institutional and financial independence. She mentioned that, for the first time, we have launched a scholarship scheme for students in STEM fields, with a special focus on girls and women in public universities.
The minister also said that the annual STEMINISTS conference, which brings together leaders and scientists in STEM, has contributed to discussions and projects that aim to mitigate gender differences and encourage women in professions considered so-called “male” professions.
The European Ambassador to Kosova, Aivo Orav, emphasized that Erasmus+ promotes gender inclusion in STEM fields, empowering women and girls to participate in disciplines that shape the future, such as innovation, economic growth and sustainable development.
Meanwhile, the President of RIT Kosova, Kamal Shahrab, spoke about the importance of including girls and women in STEM fields, to provide greater opportunities for the future of women because as he emphasized: “the world has seen many successful women scientists and there can be even more“.
