The process of reviewing subject curricula/teaching programs for primary and lower secondary education begins

The Acting Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Arbërie Nagavci, convened a meeting with the coordinating group for the review of subject curricula and teaching programs for primary and lower secondary education, marking the start of a reform process aimed at addressing structural shortcomings in teaching content and the overload faced by students.

The coordinating group has been established to lead and oversee the curriculum review process, including the coordination of professional subgroups by curricular fields, the provision of methodological guidance, and ensuring coherence, integrity, and consistency throughout all stages of the process.

Minister Nagavci emphasized that the curriculum review is not a formal or technical exercise, but a necessary intervention to improve the quality of education, eliminate unnecessary repetitions, address the lack of coherence, and strengthen alignment with core curricula and key learning concepts.

As part of broad public engagement, the Minister announced that MESTI will organize at least eight public debates—seven of them across different regions of the country—to ensure meaningful participation of teachers, school principals, experts, and citizens. Their contributions will be documented and serve as a foundation for the final analysis.

The process will culminate in a comprehensive report with findings and concrete recommendations by the end of April, ensuring transparency, accountability, and evidence-based decision-making within the framework of curriculum reform.

The Ministry of Education remains committed to building a functional and modern education system that responds to the real needs of students and teachers and supports the long-term development of the country.
