The Acting Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Arbëria Nagavci, together with the Acting Deputy Minister of Education, Arsim Ademi, participated in the presentation of the new Curriculum for Early Childhood Education (ECE) for children ages 0-6, as part of the National Conference “Together for Quality Early Childhood Education”.
Minister Arbërie Nagavci emphasized that the new Curriculum presents a modern and comprehensive vision, which places the child at the center of the learning process.
“Based on the philosophy of learning through play, well-being, holistic development and 21st century competencies, the curriculum has been designed in accordance with the IBE-UNESCO guidelines”, said Nagavci.
The Minister also recalled that early childhood education remains a national priority, consolidated through the new Law on Early Childhood Education and the Kosovo Education Strategy.
Presenting the investments made, the Minister announced that MESTI has built 14 new nurseries, the European Union through EU-IPA has supported 6 more, while 31 nurseries are currently under construction and 2 in the contracting process, while 19 new nurseries were planned in the 2025 budget.
She also emphasized the innovative approach of adapting school buildings to nurseries, so far 11 buildings have been successfully converted, 6 are in the process and 4 more are planned.
UNICEF Head in Kosovo, Veronika Vashchenko, described the launch of the Curriculum as a historic moment for Kosovo, emphasizing its scientific basis and the critical importance that the first years of life have for brain development.
She stated that the curriculum treats children as curious, active and creative individuals, and represents a wise investment with great educational, social and economic benefits.
Meanwhile, the Ambassador of Luxembourg to Kosovo, Eric Dietz, highlighted the importance of education by quoting Kofi Annan and emphasized the strong partnership between Luxembourg, UNICEF and Kosovo institutions since 2014. He underlined that support for the most vulnerable children has always been at the heart of the cooperation and called the launch of the new curriculum a transformative step that is expected to bring better results in learning, socio-emotional development and long-term health.
