Kosova takes the associated status in the “Horizon Europe” program with full rights

The Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Arbërie Nagavci, and the EU Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Mariya Gabriel have signed in Prishtina and Brussels the agreement for Kosova’s participation in the Horizon Europe Program”. With this agreement, Kosova gains the associate status in the program with full rights, along with other Western Balkan countries, Georgia and Israel.

Associated status means more opportunities for legal entities and individuals from Kosova to participate in European research programs. On this occasion, Kosova becomes an active part of the European Research Area, benefiting from participation in a common, Pan-European research and innovation ecosystem.

The Horizon Europe program is the European Union’s main program for financing research and innovation with a total budget of 95.5 billion euros. The program enables international cooperation in the field of research and innovation, supporting the implementation of EU policies and addressing the global challenges of humanity through research and innovation.

In the EU Framework Program for Research and Innovation, Kosova initially has participated in the “Framework Program 7” and Horizon 2020”. In these programs, Kosovo has had the status of third country (third country) together with most other countries in the world, while with this Agreement the status of Kosova is significantly advanced.

Horizon Europe Program Association Agreement enters into force after ratification by the Assembly of Kosova. However, legal entities from Kosova have been allowed to apply in calls 2021, while the winners will be able to realize their projects after the ratification of the Agreement.
