124,000 signatures are handed over to the Prime Minister in order to make education as national priority

Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Shyqiri Bytyqi together with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj hosted today in the meeting dozens of pupils who submitted to the Prime Minister 124,477 signatures that were collected under the Campaign for Better Education in Kosovo. The Campaign, Education in your Hand, initiated by MEST and GIZ, started on 1 November 2017 and is supported by around 20 other education donors, aims to increase the budget for education, respectively to make education one of the top priorities of the Government.

Together with the pupils, led by Blon Shehu student, were also present the Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission for Education, Ismajl Kurteshi and the project leader GIZ CDBE, Boris Scharlowski.

In conversation with Prime Minister Haradinaj, pupils and other participants, Minister Bytyqi initially thanked Prime Minister Haradinaj for the reception, while expressing his commitment to a more qualitative education and said that for this we have set priorities that should be implemented in the future.

“Next year, we will have new textbooks in line with the new curriculum, and we have made public calls for potential school textbooks", said among other things Minister Bytyqi.

In addition, Minister Bytyqi said that he will continue with teacher training in order to improve teaching performance and many other issues that directly affect the improvement of quality in education, while stressing that it is necessary to have more budget for future education.

On this occasion, was also discussed about the need for greater involvement of children in pre-school education, equipment of schools with labs and teaching aids, adequate training of teachers and school directors, realization of practical teaching in schools, greater involvement of RAE community children in schools, improvement of school infrastructure, etc..

Prime Minister Haradinaj, meanwhile, stressed that as the Government of the country will take obligations that in addition to the rule of law, even education to become a national priority in Kosovo.
